    美联邦航空管理局(FAA)发布了一份机场名单,据悉,名单中的这些机场周围将有临时缓冲区,那里禁止在1月下旬启用新的5G覆盖,禁止时间为期6个月。在这段时间里,该机构和航空业将努力确保目前的飞机设备不会被运营商用于扩展其5G网络的新频率所干扰。

    机场名单包括美国各地一些最大的国际枢纽,如纽约市的约翰-肯尼迪国际机场、洛杉矶国际机场和芝加哥的奥黑尔国际机场。它们包括运营商计划在1月19日激活5G覆盖的C波段频率的地区。据FAA新闻室周五发布的消息,交通量、低能见度天数和地理位置都是影响哪些机场需要缓冲区的因素。​

    在C波段上线后的六个月里,包括AT&T和Verizon在内的无线公司将关闭发射器并对这些缓冲区内机场周围3.7-3.98GHz频率的C波段5G信号进行其他调整。这将使得它们不会干扰在4.2-4.4GHz频率下运行的航空设备。​

    这些设备包括无线电高度计,它为飞机系统提供准确的高度读数。FAA和航空业一直担心C波段信号会干扰飞机在恶劣天气和低能见度时在机场降落时所依赖的读数。​

    在缓冲区启用的六个月里,FAA将跟航空公司和制造商合作以测试在C波段5G信号中运行的高度计并取消对使用高度计的飞机的限制,这些高度计在这些环境中可以安全飞行。根据FAA的C波段常见问题页面,那些不安全的高度计将被改造或替换。​

    临时缓冲区包括完全禁止C波段5G信号的着陆跑道周围略多于一英里的范围,并为飞机在降落时提供20秒的无信号时间。​

    无线行业对这些区域有一个更具体的轮廓,它将在跑道前后2100米以及两侧910米范围内延伸。根据代表无线行业的贸易组织CTIA提供给CNET的一份文件,运营商将在跑道前后6100米的较窄路径上减少C波段信号并限制地平线以上的信号功率。​

    缓冲区是美国运营商做出的另一项妥协,以确保他们即将推出的C波段服务不会干扰关键的飞机仪器。Verizon和AT&T分别在11月和1月推迟了他们的C波段发射,并在全美范围内降低了广播的功率水平。​
