全球名列前茅的加密货币经纪商Genesis Global Trading Inc．旗下机构销售负责人Leon Marshall最近向媒体透露，过去一个月，更多的传统对冲击基金通过面向专业投资者的Genesis进行了做空Tether的交易，这些交易的美元名义价值“数以亿计”。
Marshall并未透露交易的具体信息。Genesis方面称，做空Tether的几乎完全是欧美的传统对冲基金，而那些加密货币领域的企业、特别是位于亚洲的，乐于进行做多交易。至少12个月内，有大批投资者在做空Tether，而对冲基金做空的兴趣是在今年5月另一稳定币TerraUSD崩盘后增加的。
Tether代码USDT，问世于2014年，它与美元币值1：1挂钩，即发行公司Tether每发行一个，就要对应增加1美元的现金或者金融工具储备。它是目前历史最久的稳定币。近些年市值始终稳居前十，多数时间位居前五。
CoinMarketCap数据显示，Tether目前市值超过660亿美元，仅次于比特币（BTC）和以太坊（ETH），在全球加密货币中名列第三位。Tether自今年5月曾短暂脱钩1美元以来市值持续下滑，目前已较5月5日的市值巅峰832.2亿美元缩水约170亿美元、跌幅超过20%。

Marshall说，关注Tether并寻求做空的传统对冲基金的确兴趣激增。他和客户沟通发现，对冲基金做空Tether有两大原因。有些基金做空是要做空更广义的经济体，因为美联储加息让投资者远离包括加密货币在内的高风险资产。
还有些基金担心支持Tether的资产质量。Tether称，通过商业票据、或者公司短期贷款、银行存款、贵金属、政府发行债券和数字代币保持等值的美元储备的价值。去年该司和纽约州检察长办公室达成和解，同意支付1850万美元了结有关其在美元储备方面对大众作出虚假说明的指控，既未承认也未否认相关指控。
今年4月有媒体指出，截至去年末，Tether持有价值240亿美元的商业票据，在其储备持仓中占比略低于三分之一。而一些卖空的投资者认为，大部分Tether所持的商业票据都来自中国房产开发商。
